  1. Fen’s evolution over the last 10 years has been wonderful to behold; from their initial forays into atmospheric black metal with debut The Malediction Fields in to ’s stunning Carrion Skies, the British band have been steadily building their sound and making their voice heard.

  6. 'The Malediction Fields' is far from an entirely awful album and has more guts and passion than your typical diluted blackgaze of today. But it never comes close to genuine brilliance and has too much formulaic and tasteless features to come off even as a half-decent endeavour.
  7. Fusing elements of post-rock, ambient soundscapes and gentle acoustic passages alongside raging black metal fury, ‘The Malediction Fields’ is an expression of loss, isolation and hopelessness, a timeless despair that has resonated throughout the history of human experience.
  8. Fen The Malediction Fields. great. Review by TheNemeton91 USER March 12th, | 4 replies. Release Date: | Tracklist. (To reiterate from past reviews, they are my favourite active group of musicians in the World.) This album appears to be the record that the aforementioned fans have cozied up to the most, and understandably so.
  9. Album closer "Through the Collapse – Gentian Truth" is the "airiest" of the tracks and is reminiscent of Fen's The Malediction Fields both in style and sound with a long, drawn out "post-y" mid section, that builds to an incredible climax before delivering a very satisfying dénouement to the album as it drifts out into the post-apocalyptic.
